What is ANZAC Day?

ANZAC Day, 25 April, marks the anniversary of Australian and New ZealanAnzac Day Marchd forces landing at Gallipoli. This was the first military action our Anzacs saw in World War I.

ANZAC stands for ‘Australian and New Zealand Army Corps', and it is a term that evokes a sense of patriotism, heroism and sacrifice, as the landing at the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey met with fierce resistance, and resulted in the deaths of more that 8000 Anzacs.

25 April is the day we remember the sacrifice of those who died in war – the First World War and all other wars.

What happens on ANZAC Day?

Ex-servicemen and women march through the city and commemorative ceremonies are held at war memorials around the country.
